My background in professional sports, I’ve played Rugby League at Hudds Giants, Rochdale, Sheffield eagles and Batley and recently put my boots back on to play for Nigeria.
Personally I remember how lonely I felt when I stopped playing at age 26 through injury and I remember how I pretty much receded completely away. It was a painful journey back to enlightenment and finding a secondary purpose in life. So I understand first hand the battle with transition and finding a new home for all your energy, skills and output. My identity was pretty much defined by my exploits as a teenage professional athlete and I couldn’t truly find a new one until I attended a chartered institute event and saw a personal development plan and got challenged to be better off the pitch than I was on it.
